Macron/UTF Browser Support
This page is for testing of browser capabilities when it comes to presentation of the UTF character set and other named entities.
Your browser is (none) version (none). As this is less than version 4, you may be unable to view the following Macronised vowels. The will probably appear as Gibberish
The Macronised and Umlaut columns contain UTF encoded character values that are generally only supported by those browsers that offer substantial support for HTML4. The values in these columns comprise of a prefix &#nnn, where nnn = the standard 8-bit ASCII value for the character to be displayed.
The Named Entities column lists the same vowel sets using standard named entities, for example the vowel 'a' with an umlaut can be represented using a textual name 'ä'

Browser Support
For most version 4 or later browsers, use of a UTF code must be acompanied by a characterset that indicates UTF is used within the docuement. The browser will then attempt to select an appropriate UTF enabled font for display of the page. The META tag required is..
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> as is in use on this page
Internet Explorer 5.0 is able to display all named entities issued with HTML4.0 but may need to have its display font tweaked in the browser by selecting a UTF enabled font from menu .. 'TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - FONTS"
Internet Explorer 4.0 can also display all named entities issued with HTML4.0 but may also need to have its display font tweaked in the browser by selecting 'VIEW - INTERNET OPTIONS - FONTS" or 'VIEW - FONTS'
